Gavin Starks is the CEO of the Open Data Institute (ODI). Founded by Sirs Tim Berners-Lee and Nigel Shadbolt, the ODI is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan, limited by guarantee company that connects, equips and inspires people around the world to innovate with data.

With a unique background in business, technology, science and media, Gavin has broad and deep knowledge of how data can change the world. He joined Virgin Net in 1995 as its fifth team member. In 2006 he created AMEE, organising the world’s environmental data, standards, and calculations into a simple web-service. Gavin helped create the digital media supply-chain, as founding CEO of world-leading digital distributor, CI - the first company to deliver digital products to iTunes. Gavin has degrees in Astronomy, and Electronic Music. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
